Sweden to launch the world’s first zero-emission catamaran
Hydrogen solutions are increasingly being introduced in order to reduce CO2 emissions.

Hydrogen solutions are increasingly being introduced in order to reduce CO2 emissions. Thus, Sweden is developing the world’s first high-speed carbon-free catamaran Beluga24.
The project is the result of a partnership between the Swedish companies Green City Ferries AB, Echandia, New Zealand’s Teknicraft and Italy’s Studio Sculli.
About the ship
- Built from carbon fiber by Green City Ferries;
- Equipped with an integrated system with battery and Echandia fuel cell propulsion for greater energy efficiency;
- Designed for 150 passengers;
- Scheduled to begin delivery in 2022.
Other similar developments include the electric ship Candela (Sweden), the hydrogen steamer Sea Change (USA) and the ship MF Hydra (Norway).
