Japan presented the first commercial hydrogen ferry
A hydrogen-powered ferry has been launched in Japan. The vessel was named HydroBingo.
It is the first ferry of its kind intended for commercial use in Japan. It was developed by Tsuneishi and CMB companies.
The ship is capable to transport 80 passengers. Besides, the ferry can operate not only on hydrogen but also on usual diesel fuel.
HydroBingo features
- Equipped with two hydrogen internal combustion engines that significantly reduce carbon emissions in use
has a mobile trailer at the stern to supply hydrogen to the engine through a special double-walled pipe; - the trailer can be transported to the hydrogen station for refueling.
Through close cooperation we were able to build this unique vessel. It’s the result of joining efforts of two companies with a long history in Japan and Europe,
– noted CMB CEO Alexander Saveris.
The developers assure that they will continue to invest in hydrogen solutions for the offshore and onshore industry. The main goal is to move steadily towards zero carbon emissions.
